This is not the post I had planned for today. In my “Insatiable Hope” post, I said I was working on a post for later in the week discussing my theme words and focuses for the year. This isn’t it, but I still felt a responsibility to post something, because I kind of said that I would. And I’m striving to be the kind of person that “when she says she’s going to do something, she does it.”
Keeping one’s word is a pretty big deal to me, but I also tend to over-commit in little ways. “Oh I’ll do that later this week.” “Yep, I’ll work on that this afternoon.” “It’s on the list! I’ll work on that next.” “I promise!” Inevitably, I wind up a little frazzled or stressed to sometimes keep my word, or guilty if I forget or just don’t follow-through. So I guess the best solution is to commit less? To not keep one’s word is an option, but I don’t care for that choice. Maybe “I’ll try” instead of “I will” is a good start. Baby steps, right?
I’m working through a little bit of brain fog and fatigue; I apologize if this post doesn’t make much sense. On January 1, I gave up added sugars, grains and most artificial sweeteners. In doing so, I’ve also scrapped most processed foods for a more natural, whole foods diet. That was a big deal. You won’t find many who love thick, soft bagels as much as I do! Or fat-free french vanilla coffee creamer! But gosh, at the rate I was drinking that creamer, I was blowing through my “recommended” sugar grams by the time I finished my second cup of coffee!
On Day 4 of my healthy eating plan, I’m still a little foggy and sleep-deprived, but I am proud of myself for making it this far without a bagel or my go-to breakfast food of Belvita Breakfast Cookies. I hope to make it at least 30 days and to pick up a few healthy habits that I can take with me through the year. I hope to see also if my allergy and asthma symptoms clear up from cleaner eating. Maybe my stubborn metabolism will even get jump-started again too.
I hope to write about my yearly focus words next week, but we’ll see how my sugar-free brain does over the next few days. I’ll try.
I’ll see you all tomorrow for Weekend Words, oops another commitment!, but I’ll leave you here with a toast from a favorite movie “Hitch”. I hope 2013 is off to a great start for you and yours!
“Never lie, steal, cheat, or drink. But if you must lie, lie in the arms of the one you love. If you must steal, steal away from bad company. If you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away.” ~ from the movie “Hitch” (video clip HERE)
A special shout-out to my friend Nicole Marie who blogs at wordsandotherthings who has just announced she is running her first marathon this year! She’s also adopting a rescue dog and cat. Good for you Nicole, you rock!
Do you ever over-commit yourself? Have you ever given up something, permanently or temporarily, that you thought you couldn’t live without? Have you ever cut out the sugar, and if so, when does the dang fogginess go away?
